Sue West

Associate Director of Policy and Services Development, Research Group Leader,
Centre for Community Child Health, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute

For thirty years Sue has been passionately driven by her commitment to addressing inequities in the context of children and families living in disadvantaged locations.

Her background in community development and her early career in some of the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods in Melbourne’s western suburbs gave her firsthand knowledge and experience of these contexts.  Fuelled by these experiences Sue spent ten years in Universities leading large-scale initiatives including the first Victorian intermediary for communities: the Community Building Resource Service and the Australian first: Community Indicators Victoria, a data portal for community planning.
As Associate Director of the Centre for Community Child Health and Research Group Leader (Policy and Equity) with the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, her goal is to accelerate efforts to reduce child inequities, by ensuring disadvantaged communities are supported to develop local solutions to the challenges impacting children’s health, development and life-long outcomes.
