Jane began her career as a physiotherapist working in rural Australia. During her career she has
balanced a passion for rural and regional health with an international perspective, having spent two
years working in the National Health Service in the United Kingdom.
As her career progressed Jane felt frustrated by not being able to address the broader, social
determinants of health in her physiotherapy practice and made the leap to health promotion. This
lead to Jane becoming the Preventative Health Manager at Sunraysia Community Health Services.
Jane holds a Masters in Health Promotion through Deakin University and as part of her study
undertook a literature review looking at measures of the Community and Consumer Nutrition
Environments in Rural and Outer Regional contexts.
Having spent the majority of her working life in regional areas she has a keen interest in the health
of rural populations and the translation of research into practice outside metropolitan areas. Jane is
now putting that passion, experience and her connection to place in action as the Executive Officer
of Northern Community Partnership which leads the Social Impact initiative Hands Up Mallee.
